Labor Day Hike 2007

Hello,

We went hiking on Labor Day. It was supposed to be a little hike into Diamond Lake, which is by Nederland, Colorado. To get to the trail for Diamond Lake you have to start by going up the 4th of July Trail. After about a mile you veer left off the current trail onto the Diamond Lake trail. There is a very large wooden sign marking the intersection of these two trails.

We were in a little bit of a hurry that day. As such, we were moving along at a good pace. Somehow we completely breezed by the huge wooden sign. After about another 1.5 hours of hiking we ran into some friendly people. They instructed us that we had missed the turn of about 3 miles back. Our short hike had become a lot longer than anticipated.

About 1/4 of a mile from the spot were we recieved the bad news was another little lake. We decided to see it before turning back for the car. On our way up we also found an old boiler and winch from a mine shaft that has long since been closed.

In the video below you'll see the pictures we took along the way. We got a little carried away with boiler pictures but we thought that Mom Burningham might like to use them for references for her student's art work. Take a look and enjoy. Bonus points for anyone that can tell me the band that plays the song.

I don't know what the song is (no bonus points for me!), but I'd like to! What is it? It's so haunting!
